About us.

Marilyn Pluess, Barn Owl, has been leading the Unit since 1999 following the retirement of Diana Prout. She has trained to lead and has her warrant, along with a Quartermasters Licence (to cook at camp and pack holiday) and Holiday Licence to enable her to safely take Brownies away and comply with all the safety regulations and to deliver a programme for happiness and fun. Her latest appointment is Division Holiday Advisor.

Kathryn is a warranted Assistant Guider and has worked with Marilyn for the past 4 years. Kathryn is on a graduate teacher training programme to teach the primary age range and has learnt valuable skills from guiding to help her in her vocation – and it works the other way too! Kathryn has her First aid at camp/holiday licence too.

Guiding promotes team building and leadership and St Breward Brownies is fortunate to have 2 young leaders with the Unit. Hayley has been with us approximately 3 years now and Gemma has just started her leadership programme. The Brownies enjoy the company of these young people who are more ‘in tune’ with them. They can flourish in this environment and learn to plan and deliver programmes in a natural way and are well up for joining in the fun!

We have a Guide Hut at St Breward but its badly in need of refurbishment and we have begun to get together funds/skills to carry out this task. Brownies is re-locating to the Memorial Hall at Row, St. Breward from November 2006 mainly because we have so many girls who want to join us and prior to the renovation work the Hut isn’t big enough for our fun and games!

Lisa is our 3rd adult guider, newly joined to enable us to take 24 Brownies, the ratio being 1 : 8 and come January 2007 when we take our 2nd intake of Rainbows we will be full.

You can place your name on the waiting list by e-mailing Marilyn - e-mail address in contacts.
